_TRANSLATION: In 2004, Evert Bloemsma published his latest type design FF Legato. He employed a distinct diagonal contrast (as in a braid) to optically connect the letters and emphasize word groups. Before that, he based his FF Balance on another unconventional contrast, making the horizontal parts heavier than the vertical: an aid to guide the eye of the reader, without serifs, along the line. Both unusually innovative designs belong to some of the most original sans-serif typefaces that have been produced over the last decades. Evert Bloemsma died suddenly in April 2005 at the age of sixty-four.
